Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg
I have been taking pictures in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district last weekend. It is very, very rare that i shoot in East-Berlin – Normally i try to avoid going there if possible. This time it actually was pretty cool, maybe because it was the first sunny day after a long winter.
All shots are done with a Leica M2/35mm Summicron ASPH using Tri-X@400 developed in XTOL. My M6 is still not back from CLA and only god knows when the M9 will arrive.

Leica M2 / collapsible Summicron
I shot 1.5 rolls of Tri-X using the M2 and an old 5cm collapsible Summicron last Sunday. Currently i am using the M2 for street photography as my M6 is still being serviced.

There’s no doubt that the M2 is a great camera, but i would always prefer to go with the M6 or MP as they have builtin Lightmeters and guessing the exposure time is always a little bit tricky (even though most of the time my results are ok).

upcoming book “Street Photography Now”
via 2point8
Thames & Hudson book designer Johanna Neurath posted a picture last week of a proof of their new title “Street Photography Now”, by Sophie Howard and Stephen McLaren, which will arrive later this year. This book will also feature Seconds2Real photographer Siegfried Hansen which is well deserved.

Apple iPhoto calendar service
I received two calendars today i produced using Apple’s iPhoto service. The quality is truly outstanding, i am more than happy. The Apple calendars are quite expensive (about 18 EURO each) but absolutely worth the money. BTW, at least if you order from Germany the calendars are print in Czech.

pictures from last weekend
The pictures below are from last weekend. I am still happy with the “old” Tri-X/XTOL look but for what reasons ever, i can’t get the M9 out of my head.

from the archive
Due to bad weather here in Berlin there was almost no chance of taking any new pictures. Instead i browsed my archives from 2007 & 2008 where i found some pictures i didn’t post so far. Hope you like them.

Fuji Provia 100F
First time in months i scanned color slides. I really must say that the colors coming from Fuji Provia are just marvellous. Too bad using slide film is so expensive. BTW: I took these pictures with the Nikon F100 and the brand new AF-S 50mm 1.4 – a very nice combination.

The 50/50 Project
Bert Stefanie from Belgium has started a personal project of shooting 50 days with a 50 mm lens only. I await the results of this project with much interest as 50 mm have become my preferred focal length in the recent years.
Kay von Aspern
I received a print of this image by fellow Vienna-based street photographer Kay von Aspern today. I will put it on my wall as soon as i found a decent frame. Besides his website you can find more of his work on his flickr stream or in the recent issue of austrian magazine Datum.

Siegfried Hansen

A picture i took of famous Hamburg-based Street Photographer Siegfried Hansen while he was in Berlin for a couple of days. If you don’t already know him check out his flickr stream.
Note: Make sure to also read Siegfried Hansen: What was he thinking? on Blake Andrews blog.
Solo exhibition at fenster61 gallery
My first exhibition at fenster61 just started. The pictures will be on display for the next four weeks.

Street Photography / public events

Some pictures from the CSD 2009 in Berlin. These are 4 of approx. 300 frames i shot within 2 hours. Trying to do SP-style pictures during events like this is total nonense. To crowded, to many stereotypes and almost everybody is keen to pose for pictures.
